What an amazing milestone—60 years of standing strong as its own but together with all other Liberian counties! This is a time to celebrate the incredible people of Lofa County, known as the ”breadbasket of Liberia.”
As part of the big celebration in Lofa, His Excellency Joseph Nyumah Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia and born in Lofa County, was to visit our latest new school building project in Marviekanedu. This summer a thunderstorm took the old poor school building, leading to lack of school in town. The Lofa school authorities asked for urgent help and we made it a priority. After hard work by everyone in the community, the school is now in place, serving more than 200 students. Also, the community got safe water in a water well. The total cost was approximately $25k. All completed in a few months after the ask. The community and partner prepared everything for the visit of the President, but the program was in the end changed without a visit. But what really matters is what that the community has done and how it is used now ahead, bravo!
We at the Swedish Education Fund for Liberia couldn’t be prouder to have been part of our journey in Lofa. Always together with the community people, participating in the projects and now lead by our local partner VPS, to do a real difference in development of their lives.
Since 2016, together with the amazing folks in Lofa and our local partners, we’ve funded 23 school construction projects (see map), 12 clean water hand pumps, participated in Ebola intervention, provided digital labs to three schools and much much more. Now we are establishing production of sanitary pads in a vocational school for girls to be in school all month, building another digital school lab etc.

Each of these projects is a proof of what can happen when all work together—combining the strength, creativity, and determination of the Lofa people with a little support from friends like us. More than 15.000 people are now benefitting from these projects.
We take the opportunity to also thank our local partner Versatile Professional Service (VPS) and the CEO/Project manager Joseph, school construction lead James, water well lead Richard, SRHR lead Rachel, solar installation lead Akoi and IT-installation lead Charles. Always committed to work together with community teams on the field for real efficient results !
As we celebrate this, we’re filled with hope and excitement for the future of Lofa County. There’s so much potential here, and we know the best is yet to come.
So, to everyone in Lofa County:
Happy 60th Anniversary!
Let’s celebrate everything you’ve achieved,
and here’s to even bigger and better things ahead.
Congratulations to you all!
With love and congratulations,
The Swedish Education Fund for Liberia
